You, In Front of the Camera

Let’s face it - unless you are a professional model or have spent years on stage, most people don’t know what to do in front of the camera.

I get it! 

Even with years of experience behind the lens, I find myself asking my photographer “Ok, now,  what do you want me to do?” This is where I can help guide you to look as natural as possible and yet not too posed. 

I tend to give gentle direction, if needed, on things like where to put your hands or how to hold your arms. If you are a pro (or a natural and don’t realize it until we get going) and don’t need direction, that's great too.

Just think of this as hanging out with one of your friends and she happens to have her camera.

It’s a collaboration

You’re part of the process during the shoot too. 

This isn’t just a Show up and Smile experience. By the time you step in front of the lens, we will have already formed a relationship. And, I will have mentally and visually mapped out your shoot, always allowing room for new ideas and spontaneous images to evolve the day of.

The entire process feels like co-creation at its best.

We start off with you completing an in-depth questionnaire. This helps you really take a look at how you want to be seen, desire to feel and want to portray yourself to the world. 

We then spend time going over  together in a meeting. In the discussion, we’re creating the feel of the images, talking through the best locations, and figuring out what you might want to wear, including the colors and styles, to get you the look you’ll feel best in.  All throughout, I’m using my intuition, getting a feel for you and who you really are and what you’re really about. I’m seeing you at a deeper level so I can capture more authentic pictures. 

During this time, we also discuss your current website and what images you need / want for your final delivery and what you need them for. If needed, I can work with your website  designer or work from your current color board and we build your shoot around this? 

 And, don’t worry if you don’t have a website yet and are just starting out. I know the right kinds of pictures that most people need to get a strong start with their marketing. We'll have you covered when you are ready to start developing your business’ site. 

 Our collaboration continues on the day of the shoot. As we get going, I’ll show you some of your images, and if we need to adjust anything, to make you feel better, we do it. 

After the shoot is over, we meet to go over your images. We talk through your favorites, and I’ll give you my professional opinion as to the best ones as well.

Outdoors and In Nature

My photographic style is inspired by natural light. 

 I love taking pictures outdoors. Both my clients and myself are more grounded being in nature and under the sun. 

 One of my favorite spots to photograph clients is at the beach. The ocean spaces offer wide open light. The bluffs offer the grasses, open vistas and ocean in the background. Toes in the sand and the feel of the cool ocean water can make you feel relaxed and playful. And, The way the sun hits your hair offers better backlighting than any studio set up.

 Other favorite spots include the local urban streets filled with Spanish architecture, gardens, and quaint shops. Your location will be unique to you, designed to bring out your most authentic self. 

 If the shoot or your personal story calls for it, I can of course also shoot indoors , whether it's your own work space or a home.

Organizing a photoshoot can feel intimidating or even overwhelming. Trust me, I get it. There are a lot of things to consider - location, lighting, hair, makeup, the whole vibe. And, if you are just the smallest bit uncomfortable being in front of the camera, all of that stuff gets magnified. 

That’s why the way I work is tailored toward giving you a comprehensive, VIP-like experience. 

 We start with an initial planning session on the phone (or in person if you’re already local) We collaborate and pull your ideas and mine together. We use Pinterest, clippings, screenshots, past photos you love and I pull them all together into a mood board. From there, I create a final creative plan and share it with you. That way, you’ll know exactly where we’re heading.

Based on our initial conversation, I will hand pick your location. I’ll consider what you need for your business, marketing and what will most fit your vibe and feel the most authentic. 

We talk through outfit suggestions. Some people go shopping, and send me texts while they’re deciding on something, and I’ll help make a decision based on what will most complement our overall mood. 

I’ll get you a list of the top local stylists and hair and makeup artists so you can look your best for the day. If you want to do your own hair and makeup, that’s fine with me too! This is all about you feeling your best. 

I’m with you all the way from our initial planning conversation to our final image selection.

The last thing I want is for you to ever worry about receiving images that don’t look or feel like you, or putting you in awkward poses that don’t feel natural. I spend time getting to know you and your vibe. We collaborate on creating the entire experience - from your outfits to the location, so I can curate the environment that’s perfect to support your feeling at your best. 

You have a voice in the process. I don’t come in and say this is how I photograph people and that’s it. I delve into what makes you unique. I help you find the poses that make you look your best, most authentic self.

And, when needed I also use my coaching skills to help make you feel comfortable, relaxed and at ease.
